CARNELL TATE
Scout's Take
Carnell Tate is the next evolution in the storied Ohio State wide receiver pipeline. While he may not possess sheer track speed, his technical floor is arguably the highest in the 2026 class. Tate is a route-running technician who understands the nuances of blind-spot manipulation and stem leverage. Standing at 6'3", he uses his length to create a massive catch radius that bails out erratic quarterback play. His 'late hands' prevent defensive backs from playing through his arms, leading to a remarkably low contested-catch failure rate. In fantasy terms, Tate is the ultimate high-floor 'Z' receiver. He is a target hog because he is always open by design. His body control along the sideline is already at an NFL veteran level, routinely executing toe-tap catches. However, scouts note that his lean frame can occasionally be disrupted by aggressive, physical press-man coverage. He will need to develop a more violent release package in the pros. While he won't be a consistent threat to take the top off a defense purely on speed, his ability to dominate the intermediate levels of the field makes him a PPR monster. He shares a similar playstyle to George Pickens in terms of 'alpha' ball-tracking, but with the refined route-running discipline of an elite OSU prospect.
